Mark E Plays 9/14
Beginning in 2005, Birmingham native Mark Evetts became a household name among DJs with his infectious, looping disco edits. His early work built around sampled loops that progessed into epic, almost majestic, 9+ minute journeys that a listener could truly get lost in . An early proponent of slo-mo house and disco edits, his edit Eps on labels like Jiscomusic and Golf Channel quickly sold out of their limited runs.
For the past few years, Evetts has been focusing on evolving as an artist, using fewer samples and releasing pieces that are as atmospheric, hypnotic, and original as anything he’s ever done. In addition to a string of singles on his own label, Merc, he released his debut album last year on Matthew Dear’s Spectral Sound.
As a DJ, he’s toured Europe extensively, played around the world and appeared on just about every possible major online radio show and podcast. Like his own productions, his sets have a flair for the hypnotic, blending jackin’ house kicks, spacey retro synths, and sexy diso melodies together while maintaining the Mark E signature looping, building, repetitious sound. Expect the Funktion to be churning out subtle grooves anywhere from 105 to 115 bpm on Friday night.
